There are four fundamental reasons for Georgia College music therapy students to facilitate or participate in the Georgia College CDG.

~ Research has shown that there is not adequate education in current university programs that support pre-internship and pre-professional education in percussion use in music therapy (Clements-Cortes, 2015; Karow, 2019; Knight & Matney, 2012; Knight & Matney, 2014).

~ Over 33 of the minimum professional competencies required by the AMTA are met or surpassed through the CDG program (American Music Therapy Association, 2013).

~ From the CBMT board certification exam, functional percussion skills, understanding of group dynamics, group cohesion and inclusion, group management, business management including
marketing and contracts are all addressed by the CDG.
(Certification Board for Music Therapists, 2015).

~ Through the CDG of the Music Therapy Program at GCSU, this advanced training is provided as part of the clinical observation program and is free for all music therapy students enrolled at GCSU.

"The mind must always be in a state of ‘flowing,’ for when it stops anywhere that means the flow is interrupted and it is this interruption that is injurious to the wellbeing of the mind"
